When does Wire Maintenance take effect?
Wire Maintenance becomes effective immediately.
Inside Wire Standard
For basic telephony inside wiring, communications cable, type CMX, 2/24, outdoor
verified, category 3 rated, solid copper twisted pair shall be used. In addition,
the FCC has adopted a new standard for inside wiring as of July 16, 2000. This
standard dictates that for new construction, inside wire must be marked to indicate
compliance with the electrical specifications for Category 3. Inside wiring material
exceeding the minimum requirements may be used and should be marked to indicate its
characteristics.

All telephone wire runs must be home runs, that is, individual/separate wire from the
Network Interface Device to each jack. Inside wire cannot be spliced or connected by
the use of wire nuts. When necessary, use a connecting block to extend wiring. Wire
should not be run across doorways, underneath carpets or flooring, attached to heating
pipes or ducts nor attached to or run in the same conduit as electrical power.
For trailers, safe and sanitary access to wiring areas must be available and wire must
be buried from the service pole to the access point. The buried wire from the service
pole to the access point is not part of the Network Care plan and the customer is
responsible for it. The access point must be a connecting block such as the 101B.
The customer must provide clear access to the entry point.
